Micah is a smiler - January 2010

Micah has started interacting a lot more with the people around him, including coos, giggles, and lots of smiles.

New Years 2010 in Pinetop

We celebrated New Years with the Greers at their Pinetop Cabin. There was enough snow, Wii tournaments, board games, and food for everyone to have a lot of fun.

Cold December Morning at the Riperian Preserve

Evelyn and I decided to walk the trails of the Riperian Preserve on a cold December morning. We had fun watching the birds and "eating" the nearby vegetation. Evelyn loves being outside and exploring.

Christmas Morning

Evelyn was much more interested in her Christmas gifts this year as a 15 month-old. She has loved both her tricycle and her rocking chair. We enjoyed a wonderful morning at my grandma and grandpa Burnham's house on Christmas. Evelyn quickly immersed herself in the gifts under the tree. Micah and Lynzie enjoyed some down time on a nearby sofa.

Our Christmas Angel - 2009

We spent a memorable Christmas Eve with the Allen family. Some of my parents' neighbors and friends, the Peters' family, asked us to re-enact the nativity, so we dressed the part and sang Christmas hymns. Evelyn was a beautiful Christmas angel, and I play the part of Joseph. It was a lot of fun, though a bit too chilly for Micah and Lynzie to stay out in the manger.

Windy Day - December 2009

Evelyn and I almost got caught outside in a storm on a windy December day. We couldn't help braving the elements to try to get the perfect picture.

Evelyn Finger Painting

I enjoyed a full month off of work to help with Micah's birth, and so Evelyn and I decided to fill our time with some fun, including an afternoon of finger-painting. Evelyn wasn't always completely sure about what she was supposed to do with the finger paint - aside from eating it. Most of the painting was done with her diaper rubbing across the posterboard. Regardless, we had a lot of fun, and we even have some impressive finger-paint flowers hanging in her room - Evelyn's first art project.

Our beautiful little boy

Here are a few of our favorite pictures of Micah during his first month.

Evelyn & Micah - December 2009

Evelyn loves her new little brother...most of the time.

Merry Christmas 2009

Grandma and Grandpa Greer got their Christmas wish, a Christmas picture with their 6 grandchildren. I think I snapped 200 pictures, and didn't get one with all 6 looking at the camera, although this one is pretty close.

Watermelon Harvest - December 2009

We harvested the last watermelons from our garden after the first freeze of the winter killed off our remaining garden plants. Max wanted to help as well. After two years of gardening, I think we have narrowed down our favorite plants: cherry tomatoes, zucchini, yellow squash, and watermelons. We also are incredibly successful growing basil, though we never seem to use any of it. Add Image

Luckily he also has his quiet moments

Wow, he has some lungs

As this picture suggests, Micah has a powerful set of lungs.

Micah Mathew Allen is born!

Evelyn's little brother Micah was born on Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009. After an eventful 24 hour labor, Micah made his way into the world at 8:12 p.m. weighing 7 lbs 12 oz. He arrived with a full head of hair and his trademark bird cry. Lynzie was wonderful throughout the labor, but wasn't sure she wanted a repeat any time soon. We are so grateful for the arrival of our beautiful little boy!

Lynzie pregnancy almost over

We took this picture of Lynzie the night before Micah was born. She is awfully cute with that 9 month baby in there.

Run from the Sun Half-Marathon - November 2009

6 months of jogging paid off in November when I ran my first (and perhaps last!) organized long-distance run. I ran in the 1st annual Mesa Run from the Sun half-marathon. To be honest, my motivation was a magazine article I read saying that men gained an average of 15 lbs while their wives are pregnant. I was happy to have Lynzie and Evelyn waiting at the finish line. My older sister Heather also ran (she beat me by 30 minutes), and my dad was on hand to cheer us on down Main Street.

State Fair - November 2009

We kept our Arizona State Fair tradition alive in 2009, taking Evelyn along for a fun night at the fair. As always, the highlight was visiting the cows in the State Fair barn. We also enjoyed fresh-squeezed lemonade and some tasty BBQ. Evelyn loved all of the lights and people, though she was exhausted by the time the night was over.

Halloween Night - October 2009

Evelyn helped clean out our pumpkin on Halloween night as we sat on the driveway, watching "Its the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" and passing out candy. She was a very cute turtle for her first Halloween.

Fall Picnic - October 2009

We decided to celebrate Fall Break with a dinner picnic at a nearby park. Evelyn decided that she didn't want to come into full contact with the grass, so she starting walking around on all fours. It was quite funny to watch.

Evelyn's 1st birthday - October 2009

We celebrated Evelyn's first birthday with all kinds of fun, including a birthday party at Grandma & Grandpa Allen's house. Evelyn had a cake all to herself. At first she wasn't sure what to do with it, but eventually figured out it was all for her. We also opened gifts at home and plastered pictures of Evelyn all over the kitchen. We are so grateful for our beautiful little girl!

Back in business

After a full year without posting anything, we've finally decided to update our blog. We hope you enjoy.
